Down jacket, cape, fur … From the essential camel coat to the daring XXL overcoat, a review of the trendy coats for fall-winter 2020-2021.
Must-have purchases, winter coats will follow us all season long. Focus on the fall-winter 2020-2021 trends to spot on the shelves now.
The coat stands checkered
Inherited from the British wardrobe, tartan is used in the plural. Unlike last season, today’s tartan is inspired by 90’s elements like at Versace or borrows from gothic fashion codes at Simone Rocha and Victoria / Thomas.
Designer Emilia Wickstead uses it within her eponymous brand to play with proportions, from oversize to pieces closer to the body without ever deviating from a certain sense of cuts.
50 shades of faux fur
Dramatized, fake fur plays the game of eccentricity and is cheerfully displayed in a very colorful light at Christian Siriano, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy and Kenzo.
This season, designers want us to have a choice. No more sober camel coat, we try our hand at a more heterogeneous and above all maximalist fashion. At 3.1 Phillip Lim as at Adam Selman and Akris, the coat adopts two different colors; a pop color and a more neutral one.
Cape or not Cape?
Fashion definitely says cape as we have seen at Alberta Ferretti, Andreas Konthaler for Vivienne Westwood and the king of fashion with dramatic glamor Elie Saab.
The coronation of the down jacket
Angel Chen, Richard Quinn, Poiret, Tod’s : the down jacket continues its stylistic rehabilitation, appealing to luxury empires and young designers who are making it their new creative playground.
